The Wild Kiwi
The Wild Kiwi is an event that has been created with the objective to get you into and onto some of the most incredible terrain and landscapes in one of the most amazing and scenic places in this country of ours!
What’s great about this event?
The Wiki Kiwi run gives you an incredible amount of freedom.
Set with sheltered beaches of the Whangarei Harbour on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, this race is full of unique archeological and historical landscapes. Participants can choose to run, walk, kayak — and even mountain bike across spectacular beaches, tracks, and trails. No matter what sport you choose to do, look forward to some challenging bumps and climbs!
The multi-sport course consists of:
- A kayak through Taurikura and Little Monroe Bay
- Mountain bike rides across private farm lands and speedy gravel roads
- Exhilarating trails with technical obstacles to pass
The run takes place on open trails, with beautiful views for miles around. Marathoners begin at Taurikura Bay, head to Urquharts Bay, and line up on an open, grassy trail over Home Point. Where they’ll witness…
- Old war-time emplacements
- Native bushes giving glimpses of Bream Bay and outer islands
- And the highest point of the Headland sitting at 467 meters
All participants are welcome to a post event buffer dinner at the Parua Bay Tavern, an awesome hangout featuring music from a live DJ!
Note: pack towels and swimwear for the lovely beach closeby!

What people say about Total Sport events
Our first Coastal Challenge and our group loved it! Such a great day out and something for the whole team!
What an awesome event – thank you so much for putting on such a totally mad event with such an incredibly supportive atmosphere. I cannot remember how many times someone offered me a hand over a rock – and so of course in turn I did the same for those behind me.
“What a happy event! The atmosphere was exciting and so welcoming.”
